I was chatting with a customer yesterday afternoon; she said she had a rough day at work, and that someone had said something really terrible and ugly to her and her co-workers.
I told her that I could relate, because I once worked for a company where everyone in my department got yelled at on a daily basis, and when someone wasn't at their desk? It was highly likely that they were in the bathroom crying.
We shared a "girl, I KNOW" look and then she said, "But that's why I came in here. I needed a birthday present for a friend and ... this store just makes me happy."
It makes me beyond happy when I hear that, and I do hear it a lot. The truth is that this is MY happy place. Coming through the doors in the morning puts a smile on my face. Helping people as they look for special gifts and seeing their faces when they find that perfect thing brings me joy. It's just -- a store full of happy.
I love that we have a space that people find welcoming, that they can come to at the end of a difficult day and find some happiness and peace (and maybe a treat for themselves for getting through a tough Tuesday). It's wonderful to know that when people need something -- a gift for a loved one, a thank you card, a pick-me-up for themselves -- that they feel like this is the place for them.
It's a happy place. Come get some happy.
