When I was a kid, one of the cruelest things about going back to school was having purchased all of these great sweater sets as part of my back to school wardrobe ... and then finding that it was waaaaaay too hot to wear them yet. I yearned for chillier weather, weather that would let me flaunt my fabulousness.
This season is, at least so far, shaping up to be another such that torments those of us who love a snuggly sweater or a cozy coat. Be that as it may, it's time for us to turn away from summer fashions and look ahead to what's hot this fall BESIDES the temperatures.
When you're looking to treat yourself this season, or need to buy a gift, keep these three fall trends in mind!
TREND 1: Statement Prints on Coats
This fall, the look to sport is a boldly patterned coat. Having said that? A quality coat is an investment, and I don't always recommend making a long term purchase like a coat in a trendy pattern, because trends come and go, and a good coat is an investment, y'all.
However, if you don't want to drop your hard earned cash on a super bold and crazy coat, you can STILL participate in the trend! Take a neutral coat and pair it with a boldly patterned, vibrantly colored scarf! If it is a trench, replace the matching belt with a wildly funky patterned belt. Sometimes the best ways to participate in a trend (especially if you are not a big pattern person), is to scale it down and do it on a smaller scale.
TREND 2: Super Busy Prints
I have to confess, I have long fought the call of the print. If left to my own devices, my wardrobe becomes a sea of monochromatic clothing with nary a print to be found.
It's ... pretty boring.
This fall, the look to sport is SUPER PRINTED. And if you're feeling exceptionally ambitious you could even (dare I say it?) ... MATCH PRINTS.
The world. It's upside down.
While I can't make too many suggestions about how to choose a print, I can tell you how to accessorize one, because when you're talking mad crazy prints, the right accessories are absolutely necessary. You want to look like you are a style genius, not like you are someone's eccentric aunt Martha. If you are participating in the busy print trend, keep the following things in mind:
1) Complimentary Colors
Choose simple lines (a bangle, for instance, or hoop or stud earrings) in a color that coordinates with the pattern. You will want your accessories to WORK with your patterns, not fight with them. Simple accessories will accentuate the fact that you are a rock star who dressed with a purpose and who knows what's what ... instead of making you look like you are blinding following trends.
TREND 3: Animal Prints
To be perfectly honest, it feels like animal prints make an appearance almost every year. My suggestion? Pick ONE really versatile, well made animal print piece and drag that bad boy out when animal prints resurface on the "What's Hot" list, because do you REALLY need a closet full of tiger print leggings?
No. No, you do not.
You can also be on trend with, again, clever accessories. A tortoiseshell hairclip. Necklaces that combine animal print colors such as ivory, rust, brown, and amber. Chunky cut stones in darker colors. Animal print scarves tucked into a solid colored purse to give it a little on-trend flair.
And there you have it. Some trends for fall, and ideas on how to make them work for YOU! And if you need some inspiration or accessories, you know where to find us -- we'd love to help you gift something awesome, or to treat yourself to something special.
